In April 2024, vertigo entered my life in a way I never expected. For the first time in many years, I had to stop running. Even short walks felt overwhelming, and things that once brought me so much joy slowly became things I feared. 

Headaches were already part of my story, but “Vestibular Migraine” was something I’ve never heard before. I believed the vertigo and the dizziness would pass. That if I slowed down, followed every recommendation, took the medications, managed stress, and did all the “right things,” I would feel like myself again. Well… it hasn’t. And I don’t.

There have been good days! when I thought, “por fin!”, got excited and signed up for a race. I even finished a few!. And then, there were days when something felt “off” again. The dizziness… blurry vision… forgetting things… dropping things… sensitivity to noise, light…that strange feeling that’s so hard to explain. One of the hardest parts is answering the simple question, “How are you feeling?”, wanting to say “better” without knowing if it’s true.

What I miss most isn’t speed or distance. I’m not afraid of rebuilding endurance (I’ve done that before). What I miss is the feeling of “I can do it.”. I'm here to try. 

Miles for Migraine represents exactly where I am today: still showing up, still moving forward, still adjusting. If I can’t run, I’ll jog. If I can’t jog, I’ll walk. “Forward is a pace”.

Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, and for understanding when I’m quiet, when I’m upset, when I cry. Thank you for not judging, for listening, for asking questions, and for wanting to learn more about migraines.
